Knee pain in adolescents – Is it because of SLJ Syndrome?

Contributing factors

  • Growth spurt
  • Poor warm-up and cool down
  • Lack of relaxation techniques such as stretching and massage
  • Poor sporting technique (jumping, landing, running)
  • Sudden increase in frequency or intensity of training
  • Weak quadriceps and gluteus muscles
  • Tight quadriceps and hamstring muscles

Get a proper diagnosis done by a physiotherapist or an orthopedic

  • Rest and ice to reduce the inflammation
  • Avoid activities which increase pain in knee ( like running and jumping)
  • Stretching and massage of the tight muscle groups ( like quadriceps and hamstrings)
  • Use a foam roller on a regular basis to reduce muscle tightness
  • Strengthening of lower limb muscle once ready (like quadriceps and gluteus)
  • Improve and correct sporting techniques
